Graduate’s future is on target

Sarah Judd
Sarah Judd, BMOS’12, has hit the bulls-eye with her job at Target Canada.

As Target plans to open 125 new stores across Canada next year, Sarah Judd, BMOS’12, is helping the retail giant get established.

The recent Western graduate started with Target Canada in September as an executive team leader. She will help launch one of its stores in London, Ont. “I’ll help set up and hire for the store, and then I’ll develop a team in one of the sections of the store,” she says.

A Simcoe native, Judd believes the DAN Program’s reputation in business education gave her a broad background in management skills, and the opportunity to pursue her interests in strategic leadership.

“In my job now I have to be able to see the bigger picture,” she says. “Through the DAN Program I learned how to take all the technical knowledge and understand it at the global level.”

In her third year, Judd studied in England, an experience she believes helped her land the job. “Target was looking for someone who was adaptable and open to change,” she says, “and being overseas certainly taught me that.”

In 2012, Judd received a prestigious Dancap Private Equity Student Award, one of 18 presented each year that recognize academic achievement as well as demonstrated professionalism, leadership and initiative in extracurricular activities.

Judd doesn’t rule out a career as an entrepreneur one day, but right now she knows she has hit the bull’s-eye. “Target is brand new in Canada so there’s lots of opportunity,” she says. “The sky’s the limit.”
