A message from the Chair - Building on success

Mitch Rothstein
Mitch Rothstein, Chair

I’m very proud of the DAN Management program. I hope that you, our alumni, are too. The program offers students a unique perspective on management education and a great learning experience. In the past year, several exciting developments have reflected the quality and vigour of the program.

As you will read in this newsletter, DAN was accredited by Chartered Professional Accountants Ontario (CPA). The accreditation recognizes both our undergraduate courses and the new Graduate Diploma in Accounting, which will be offered starting next May. Completing the graduate diploma provides a significant benefit to our students in their goal to obtain their CPA designation. Accreditation reflects well on the quality of our accounting studies and will help us continue to attract great students.

Also in this newsletter, you’ll read about our innovative Hong Kong course offered for the first time this spring. Course and instructor evaluations were outstanding, as is the ‘buzz’ from participants. Living and learning in Hong Kong helped to open students’ eyes to the reality of a global marketplace, with all its challenges and opportunities. We’re already talking about ways to build on this success.

The new Masters of Management in Applied Science is another exciting development. A collaboration between DAN and the Faculty of Science at Western, the program combines management courses provided by DAN with applied courses in specific scientific disciplines. The goal is to prepare students for work in industry, government and consulting. The first cohort completed the program this summer, and the response has been very positive.

This is our first foray into graduate education. We’re now actively planning for our own graduate program in the future. Based on what we’ve achieved in the past 12 months, great things lie ahead!
