DAN Program introduces new stream

Brian Timney
Brian Timney
Dean, Faculty of Social Science

This fall, DAN Management and Organizational Studies will launch a new specialization focusing on public administration and pairs the program's management courses with those in the Department of Political Science.

According to Brian Timney, dean of the Faculty of Social Science, the new stream is a "perfect example" of how DAN looks ahead, sees opportunities and develops dynamic programs that provide graduates with a distinct market advantage. Public administration is now the sixth stream in the DAN program.

By offering public administration courses combined with DAN's social science-based introduction to the business world, students in the new stream will graduate with highly marketable managerial skills. Graduates will be grounded in data analysis, evidence-based decisions and will have training in psychology relevant to consumer behaviour, business, finance and accounting.

"The module was designed to parallel our human resources module, with the addition of courses that would give a student background in issues related to the public sector," says Timney. "Students graduating from the program will be able to move into entry level human resource or general administrative positions in any public sector body."

DAN Management and Organizational Studies continues to grow and evolve to offer the most flexible approach to management education in Canada. "The history of DAN is one of innovation," says Timney, "and this new stream is a good example of that."
