Unification update: CPA Ontario

The unification of the accounting profession in Ontario and across Canada continues to make great progress and nears completion. Forty accounting bodies - at the federal level, in all provinces and territories, as well as Bermuda - have all agreed to unite under the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

Legislation has been passed in Quebec, New Brunswick, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador, and CPA Acts have been introduced in British Columbia and Manitoba. Ontario and Nova Scotia hope to have provincial CPA Acts introduced in 2015.

In this province, CPA Ontario has now combined the staff and operations of the legacy CGA, CMA and CA bodies. Under the leadership of President and CEO Carol Wilding, FCPA, FCA, CPA Ontario protects the public interest by ensuring its members meet the highest standards for integrity and expertise. CPA Ontario serves and supports its more than 80,000 members and approximately 20,000 students in their qualification and professional development in a wide range of senior positions in public accounting, business, finance, government, not-for-profits and academe.
