INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING TO NEED BASED AWARDS
Need Based Awards are awarded to students based on a combination of academic merit, demonstration of financial need, and in some cases, non-academic requirements.
To be considered for Need Based Awards students are required to complete the Financial Assistance Profile Application (FAP). The FAP Application becomes available in late August each year through the Student Centre website.
Please note that the deadline to submit the Financial Assistance Profile Application and any supporting documentation (if applicable) for Need Based Award consideration is September 30.
Supporting Documentation
Some Need Based Awards require that supporting documentation be submitted in addition to the Financial Assistance Profile Application for consideration. A list of need-based awards is available on the Registrar's website.
NEED BASED AWARDS
Charles Alexander, Erma May and Nancy Elizabeth Stewart Award
Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student in second year or higher of any degree program offered through the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based on financial need and a minimum 70% average.
Online financial assistance applications can be accessed through Student Center and must be submitted by September 30.
The DAN Management Student Awards Committee will select the recipient once the Office of the Registrar has determined financial need. This award was established by a bequest from the late Miss Nancy E. Stewart.
Diamond Aircraft 125th Anniversary Alumni Award
Awarded to a full-time student who is entering fourth year of the Bachelor of Management & Organizational Studies - Commercial Aviation Management module, based on academic achievement in the third year of the BMOS program, enrolment in the flight training stream during fourth year of the BMOS program, and demonstrated financial need.
Candidates must have obtained a minimum overall average of 75% in Year 3 and placed in the top of the class for that year both on the Transport Canada Commercial Pilot flight tests and the written examination. Online financial assistance applications can be accessed through Student Center and must be submitted by September 30.
The DAN Management Student Awards Committee will select the recipient once the Office of the Registrar has determined financial need. This award was established by a generous donation from Diamond Aircraft.
Doug Needham Memorial Award in Commercial Aviation
Awarded annually to a student in any year of the Bachelor of Management & Organizational Studies (Commercial Aviation Management) who demonstrates financial need, academic excellence and who completes an essay on "Why Study Aviation."
Applications are available from the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies and must be submitted by September 30th. Online financial assistance applications are available through Student Center and must also be submitted by September 30th.
Recipients will be selected by the DAN Management Student Awards Committee. This award was made possible by a generous donation from Lloyd Needham in memory of his son, Doug Needham (HBA'83-History). 2 Awards available annually.
Dr. K. Victor Ujimoto Scholarship in Aviation Human Factors Management
Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a Commercial Aviation Management module in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies who achieves the highest grade in MOS 3305A/B: Human Factors in Aviation, and also demonstrates financial need.
Online financial assistance applications can be accessed through Student Center and must be submitted by September 30. Once the Office of the Registrar has determined financial need, the DAN Management Student Awards Committee will select the recipient each spring.
Dr. K. Victor Ujimoto established this scholarship. This award is offered through the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund (OSOTF) program, and recipients must meet Ontario residency requirements.
Jean (Dobbins) Clark Award in Management and Organizational Studies
Awarded to a full-time student in Year 2 or Year 3 of any four-year degree in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based on academic achievement (minimum 75% average), financial need and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
Online financial assistance applications can be accessed through Student Center and must be submitted, along with a maximum 250-word essay describing the candidate's extra-curricular involvement, by September 30.
The Office of the Registrar will determine financial need and the DAN Management Student Awards Committee will select the recipient. This award was established in memory of Jean (Dobbins) Clark, who was a 1946 Western graduate, by her husband and alumnus, Mr. F. Ross Clark (BSc '46, Chemistry and MEng '75), and her children Nancy and John Clark, through Foundation Western.
Katalogic Inc. BMOS Award
Awarded annually to an undergraduate student, in any year, of a DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies program, based on a minimum 70% average and demonstrated financial need.
Online financial assistance applications are available through Student Center and must be submitted by September 30th.
The DAN Management Student Awards Committee will select the recipient after the Registrar’s Office assesses the financial need. This award was established by a generous gift from Ms Wendy Chiu (BA 1994) and her company, Katalogic Inc.
KPMG Foundation Award in Finance & Accounting
Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student in Year 2 of the Finance or Accounting streams of a four-year degree program in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based on academic achievement (minimum 70% average) and demonstrated financial need.
Online financial assistance applications can be accessed through Student Center and must be submitted by September 30.
The Office of the Registrar will determine financial need and the DAN Management Student Awards Committee will select the recipient. The award will continue in Years 3 and 4 of the BMOS degree program provided that the recipient continues to meet criteria for the award. Only one recipient will receive this award in any given year. If the recipient fails to meet these requirements, another student from the same year will be selected based on the criteria stated herein. Continuing for up to 3 years.
Walker Wood Foundation Continuing Scholarship in MOS
Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student who is a Canadian citizen and is entering first year in the Management and Organizational Studies Program in the Faculty of Social Science, based on academic achievement (minimum 80% average), demonstrated financial need and community leadership. Preference will be given to a student from rural Ontario.
This scholarship will continue for up to four years, provided the recipient continues to be enrolled in a four-year degree program in the Faculty of Social Science, maintains an 80% average on a full course load and demonstrates financial need each year. Students who enter the Honors Business Administration (HBA) program at the Richard Ivey School of Business are eligible for renewal provided that the academic and financial need components are met. Online financial need applications are available through Student Center and must be submitted by September 30.
Applications should include a one-page statement describing the students' leadership activities within their school, university, community or other environment (also to be submitted to the Registrar's Office by September 30).
The Registrar's Office will select the recipient. If the recipient fails to retain the award, a new student from the same year will be selected. Only one student may hold this scholarship in any given year. This award was established through a generous gift from the Walker Wood Foundation.
MERIT BASED AWARDS
FALL AWARDS
Melvyn P. Rubinoff Q.C. Award in Aviation
Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student entering fourth year in a Commercial Aviation Management module in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based on a minimum 70% average and demonstrated leadership experience and/or community involvement.
A statement outlining leadership experience and/or community involvement must be submitted to the department by September 30.
The recipient will be selected by the DAN Management Student Awards Committee. This award was established by Fogler, Rubinoff LLP in honour of Melvyn P. Rubinoff.
Melvyn P. Rubinoff graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1957 and started practising with his father Samuel at Rubinoff and Rubinoff. In 1982 he co-founded the law firm Fogler, Rubinoff with Lloyd Fogler. Mel also had a passion for flying and obtained his pilot's licence before he was 20. He was an accomplished pilot and flew many aircraft including several jet airplanes. He volunteered to fly on medical flights to pick up severely injured or sick patients from remote areas in Ontario and fly them to Toronto so they could be treated at a Toronto Hospital.
Dr. Keith Fleming/CMA Student Award
Awarded annually to a student enrolled in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based on academic achievement in Introduction to Consumer Behaviour and Human Resources (MOS 1021A/B) and Introduction to Accounting and Finance (MOS 1023A/B) taken in the previous year, as well as overall participation in the MOS program and broader university community.
Students are required to submit a one-page application summarizing their participation in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies and broader university community.
Online applications can be accessed through the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies website by September 30. Recipients will be selected by the DAN Management Student Awards Committee.
This award was established by Certified Management Accountants (CMA) Ontario in recognition of Dr. Keith Fleming's contributions during his tenure as Director of the DAN Program in Management & Organizational Studies.
Dan Family BMOS Scholarships
Awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students entering Year 4 of any module in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based on academic achievement in Year 3 and interest in entrepreneurship.
Online applications can be accessed through the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies website. Applications, including a resume describing the applicant's qualifications, are due by November 1st.
The DAN Management Student Awards Committee will select the recipients. This scholarship was established by a generous donation from the Dan Family.

DAN Management Global Opportunities Award
Awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies Strategic Management Course 4410 in Singapore. Students participating in this course must be registered at the constituent University and must be currently registered in a full-time course load (minimum 3.5 full courses).
Students may apply for this award in advance of being enrolled in this course with receipt of the award contingent upon acceptance into the course. Students may only receive a Global Opportunities award once during their academic career at Western.
Online applications are available on the Global Opportunities website, Western International. Transcripts may be required for students who studied elsewhere in their previous academic year. Applications are due on November 15 (for decisions in early January) and February 15 (for decisions in late March).
Western International will consult with the DAN Management Student Awards Committee when selecting the students. Students will be selected based on a combination of academic achievement, as well as a statement outlining how this experience will contribute to their development as a global citizen, what they expect to learn through their program of study and how they will be an effective Ambassador for Western. These awards are being supported through a generous donation made by Mr. Aubrey Dan (BA '85). Value: 3 at $2,000*

SPRING AWARDS
Air Ontario Bob Nyman Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student in his or her fourth year of the Commercial Aviation Management module in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, who achieves a minimum 80% academic average and demonstrates commitment through involvement in extra-curricular activities at Western and in the community. Priority will be given to a student undertaking flight training in conjunction with his or her academic program. This person must represent the highest ethical values and show a strong aptitude for a future leadership role in the Aviation Management industry.
Candidates must complete an application by March 10 and write a one-page statement outlining their extra curricular activities at Western and in the community. Online applications can be accessed through the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies' website.
The DAN Management Student Awards Committee will select the recipient. This scholarship was established in honour of Bob Nyman, a long term employee of Air Ontario Inc and a highly respected leader in the field of Aviation Management.
Dancap Private Equity Graduating Student Award in Management and Organizational Studies
Awarded annually to a full-time student completing the final year in any module in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based on academic achievement and demonstrated professionalism, leadership and initiative in extracurricular activities throughout his or her undergraduate years.

Dancap Private Equity Graduating Student Award in Accounting
Awarded annually to a full-time student completing the final year in an Accounting module in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based on academic achievement and demonstrated professionalism, leadership and initiative in extracurricular activities throughout his or her undergraduate years.

Awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, Faculty of Social Science, who are Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit or Métis) based on academic achievement. This is a continuing award provided that the recipient remains in the DAN Department and maintains an average of 70% each year. Only one recipient will hold this award in any given year. When the current recipient is no longer eligible, a new recipient will be selected. The Office of the Registrar will select the recipients. This award was established by a generous donation from Mr. Aubrey Dan (BA`85) and its creation was inspired by Towards Western at 150, Western University’s Strategic Plan (2022). Dancap Private Equity Student Award in Accounting
Awarded annually to a full-time student enrolled in an Accounting module in DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based on academic achievement in the equivalent of 2.5 MOS accounting courses (MOS 3362A/B, 3363A/B, 4462A/B, 4465A/B, 4467A/B), and demonstrated professionalism, leadership and initiative in extracurricular activities.

Awarded annually to a full-time student graduating from Year 4 of a Specialization or Honors Specialization in Management & Legal Studies in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies based on academic achievement in the Enterprise Risk Management course (MOS 4468A/B) and demonstrated professionalism, leadership and initiative in extracurricular activities.

Dancap Private Equity Student Award in Operations Management
Awarded annually to a full-time student enrolled in any module in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based upon academic achievement in Operations Management (MOS 3330A/B), and demonstrated professionalism, leadership and initiative in extracurricular activities.
Online applications can be accessed through the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies' website. Applications, including a résumé describing the applicant's qualifications, must be submitted by April 1.
A recipient of this award, which will be based upon the above evaluation criteria as judged by the DAN Management Student Awards Committee, is not eligible to receive any other Dancap Private Equity Student Award during the same year. This award was established by a generous donation from Mr. Aubrey Dan (BA`85).
Dancap Private Equity Student Award in Strategic Management
Awarded annually to a full-time student enrolled in any module in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based upon academic achievement in Strategic Management (MOS 4410A/B), and demonstrated professionalism, leadership and initiative in extracurricular activities.

Dancap Private Equity Indigenous Continuing Award (NEW SCHOLARSHIP)
Awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, Faculty of Social Science, who are Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit or Métis) based on academic achievement. This is a continuing award provided that the recipient remains in the DAN Department and maintains an average of 70% each year. Only one recipient will hold this award in any given year. When the current recipient is no longer eligible, a new recipient will be selected. The Office of the Registrar will select the recipients. This award was established by a generous donation from Mr. Aubrey Dan (BA`85) and its creation was inspired by Towards Western at 150, Western University’s Strategic Plan (2022). Effective 2024/2025 Academic Year.

Alan and Mary Adlington Scholarship
Awarded annually to an undergraduate student beyond Year 1, in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, based on academic achievement (minimum 80% average).
This is a continuing award provided that the recipient remains in the DAN Department and maintains an average of 80% each year. When the current recipient is no longer eligible, a new recipient will be selected.
The Office of the Registrar will select the recipient. This scholarship was established by Dr. Alan (HBA 50, LLD '86) and Mrs. Mary Adlington.
Dancap Private Equity Second-Year Student Award
Awarded annually to the full-time student enrolled in any module of the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies with the highest sessional average in Year 2.
To receive this award, the student must be continuing full-time in Year 3 of any module in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies.
The recipient of the Dancap Private Equity Second-Year Student Award is not eligible to receive another Dancap Private Equity Student Award during the same year. This award was established by a generous donation from Mr. Aubrey Dan (BA`85).
DAN Management Graduate Diploma in Accounting Scholarship
Awarded annually to a full-time graduate student entering the Graduate Diploma in Accounting program, with academic achievement (minimum 80% average).
The recipient will be selected by the scholarship committee in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies. At least one representative of the committee must hold current membership in the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. This scholarship is being supported by a generous donation made by Mr. Aubrey Dan (BA '85)
Effective: May 2015 to April 2020 inclusive.
Gillespie Chapman Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student entering third year in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies with the highest overall average in year two.
This scholarship was established in memory of the late Miss Mary Gillespie and the late Mrs. Elaine Chapman who devoted many years to teaching at Western.
Four awards available annually.
MOS Diamond Jubilee Alumni Scholarships
Awarded annually to students entering the final year of an Honours Specialization, Specialization or Major in Finance in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, who have the highest overall average in year three.
This scholarship was established in 1984 by the alumni to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of the Department of Secretarial Science and the Department of Secretarial and Administrative Studies (which offered the Administrative Office Management Studies program).
Four awards annually.
P. Michael Salentyn Memorial Award
Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student in his or her final year of a Specialization or Major in Commercial Aviation Management (CAM), who is enrolled in the Integrated Commercial Pilot License (ICPL) flight training option of the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies.
The recipient will have achieved a minimum cumulative average of 70%, and demonstrated the qualities of leadership, congeniality, generosity in mentoring fellow aviation students, and commitment to excellence in aviation training, for which Michael Salentyn was known.
The Director of the CAM Program in consultation with the flight school will select the recipient. This award was established by memorial donations from the friends and family of P. Michael Salentyn.
Thomas C.R. Lawson Award in Commercial Aviation Management
Awarded annually to a full-time student enrolled in Year 3 or 4 of the Commercial Aviation Management (CAM) Flight Training module in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies, with a minimum 70% average and a demonstrated aptitude for aviation.
The Director of the CAM Program will select the recipient in consultation with the flight school. The recipient will be presented with the award at the CAM banquet, held each April.
This award was established by a generous donation from The Lawson Foundation in honour of Thomas C.R. Lawson. Tom Lawson was born in London, Ontario and attended both the University of New Brunswick and Western University. He obtained his pilot licence while at UNB and spent a summer surveying power lines from the air. After finishing university he launched a lifelong career in business, and over the years volunteered his financial expertise to dozens of organizations. Tom's passion for flying led him to get involved in organizing airshows and starting a flight training school. It was at this point that he helped to develop the CAM program at Western, confident that it would give future pilots the background they need to have lifelong success in aviation. Tom died in 2014 from prostate cancer at age 71.
