Chris Jackson will discuss how the ancient Roman concept of the Via Romana (“the Roman Way”) has influenced modern psychology. The lecture will first focus on gravitas, one of the most important Roman virtues, and explore its theoretical and empirical relationship with transformational leadership. Jackson will also use Pliny “The Younger’s” panegyric to identify the imperial virtues of ancient Rome. From the panegyric, Jackson extracts personality statements and determines their empirical relationship with the Big Five and the HEXACO.
