Program Requirements

Students in this program are required to complete all 5 Graduate Level courses with an overall average of 70% and no individual mark less than 60% to complete the program and gain advanced standing in CPA PEP.

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting program consists of five courses and has been specifically designed to ensure comprehensive coverage of the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) competency map.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will enter the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) at
Capstone 1, thereby bypassing the first four modules of CPA PEP.

Courses: 

ACCNTING 9008 - Integrated Approach to the Competencies

This course is designed to integrate the knowledge and skills required of a professional accountant or advisor. Emphasis will be placed on enhancing students’ critical thinking and problem solving skills. Further, the course will provide numerous opportunities to enhance professional judgement and ethical behaviour. Students will improve oral communication skills through robust class discussion and written communication through case exams. The objective of this course is to mentor students in learning how to apply these topics to case based examination scenarios like those found on the Common Final Exam.

ACCNTING 9010 - Advanced Finance and Corporate Financial Reporting

The purpose of this course is to deepen the student's understanding of, and expose students to, generally accepted accounted principles found within Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises and International Financial Reporting Standards as well as a variety of advanced finance topics that coincide with the CPA Competency Map. The objective of this course is to mentor students in learning how to apply these topics to case based examination scenarios like those found on the Common Final Exam (CFE).

ACCNTING 9012 - Performance Management

This course will combine, broaden and further develop the knowledge learned in strategy and management accounting courses taken at the undergraduate level. The objectives of this course are to examine organizational core competence, exploit these competencies to develop a strategic advantage while mitigating risk and to effectively implement strategies.

ACCNTING 9014 - Advanced Taxation Case Writing

The purpose of this course is to deepen students' understanding of the Income Tax Act (Canada) and its effect on business decisions. The objective of this course is to analyze complex taxation issues at the personal and corporate level as well as a variety of complex issues such as rollovers, estate planning, and the taxation of trusts and international taxation.

ACCNTING 9016 - Advanced Assurance

This course will build on the Introductory Audit course at the undergraduate level while integrating technical knowledge of financial accounting. In particular, this course will examine current issues and trends in the auditing profession, explore non-traditional assurance and attestation engagements, and enhance students' professional judgment, audit reasoning, and the conceptual understanding of all assurance engagements.

To ensure students are staying on target, checkpoints will be instituted at the end of each course set.
